It's the inter-networking of physical devices, vehicles
(also referred to as
"connected devices" and "smart devices"),
buildings, and other items—embedded with electronics, software,
sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these
objects to collect and exchange data.

Challenge

As Xively began to expand their partnership with Salesforce, we needed a better solution to deliver new value
to customers and
to manage IoT products in new ways.  The challenge was to build an app that engineers could easily set
up without code to merge product and customer data directly into Salesforce to produce new product service automation.

I was tasked with delving into a data mapping system originally designed by engineers. I worked side by side with an engineering lead on Xively to understand the complex setup and constraints of the integration. This would help to break down the necessary tasks an engineer would need to understand in order to set-up the Salesforce Integration without any code.

First, I conducted an audit of the current system, keeping an eye out
for inconsistent UI patterns,
confusing language and disjointed user tasks.

TIME TO WIREFRAME

Then I started wireframing a best case user flow and iterated from
greyscale wireframes
to high fidelity designs as I consulted engineering.

"The new app allowed us to connect        Xively and Salesforce with clicks - no coding required. You can now view all device and sensor data in real-time within Salesforce. It also allows for easy configuration to modify the integration objects or mapping. Well done!"

"In many cases, Xively prospects already use Salesforce in house, but even if they don't, the Salesforce Device Bridge allows us to present a clear picture of the value of connected products and the Xively Platform. It has been a key tool that helps us show the real world value that our product creates."
